A beautiful place is not a story
Why we brief creators on what to skip, and why we let them say a place is not worth it.
Most travel content is a list of pretty surfaces. A pool. A balcony. A plate. Watch fifty of them and you cannot remember one place, because nothing happened. Beauty is not a story. Beauty is a backdrop that a story can happen in front of.
So our briefs ask for different things. What is it like at seven in the morning. What does the host keep apologising for. What should a guest skip. Who should not come here at all. The answers are less flattering and far more useful, because they help a person decide instead of just wanting.
This is also why creators here are allowed to say a place is not worth the hype. A recommendation only carries weight if refusing was possible. If we published everything, we would be an advertising channel with better typography.
The test we use before publishing anything: would you send this to a friend who has one free weekend and limited patience? If not, it is decoration.
