Field note 03

Distance is measured in feelings, not kilometres

Good GetawayPoint of view8/26/2026

Sixty kilometres can be a different life. Six hundred can be the same one with worse traffic.

We ask people the wrong question. Where do you want to go turns a need into logistics, and logistics is where good intentions go to die. The better question is how do you want to feel by Sunday evening. Because distance is not the variable that matters. You can drive six hundred kilometres to a resort that runs on the same notifications, the same food, the same version of you. Or you can drive sixty and end up somewhere with cold air, patchy signal, kitchens that close at ten, and nothing to do after dark, which turns out to be the point. Interruption is the product. Distance is just one of the cheaper ways to buy it, and usually not the most efficient one. That is why our discovery flow never opens with a map. It opens with what are you running toward, and it accepts I do not know as a real answer, because most people do not, and pretending otherwise is how they end up back where they started.
